Jesus Christ

Central to every aspect of life for Armstrong Baptist Church is our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul in leaving the Ephesian elders admonished them with these words. “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28.

This is not our church, but His church. A church is not a building, but a body of believers bought with the blood of God’s own Son. Any Bible believing church will always be centered on Jesus, the Lord of the church.

Although one of the favorite titles for Himself was “Son of man,” it was because He couldn’t deny that He was the “Son of God” that He was put to death by crucifixion. He was put to death by men, but it was entirely within the plan of God that His death was allowed. In fact, for any other man to be saved God could not spare His only begotten Son.

John records this:  Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”   John  8:58

Jesus claimed to have existed before Abraham, who had lived many hundreds of years before He was born.  In short, He claimed the eternal existence of God.

That the Jews clearly understood this claim is recorded in their reaction:

Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.   John 8:59

The punishment for blasphemy is what they sought to impose upon Him.  Their desire was to stone Him to death for claiming equality with God.

Also clearly recorded is that they could not touch Him at this time.  No one could take His life from Him.  It was left to Him to willingly lay down His life for us.

He did this when He allowed Himself to be crucified for our sins.

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.  II Corinthians 5:21

How do you receive the gift of salvation that Jesus provided and God offers?

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”  Romans 10: 8-11

Believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for your sins and was raised from the dead.  Call upon His Name and confess Him before men.

Here’s hoping for your salvation today!!!

Lord,
Grant that those who read this may believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and call upon Him for salvation.  Lord may many praise your Name for the salvation You alone have provided through all eternity, for You are worthy.  Amen

That by all means we may save some
